Senior Designer

MZA is a rapidly growing architectural design firm located in Bellevue Downtown. We focus on delivering quality design for commercial, residential and hospitality markets in both the Northwest and Asia. Our projects range from large scale urban mixed-use development to luxury single family home design. We are constantly looking for talented, dedicated, and team orientated design professionals.

MZA is currently seeking a Sr. designer /Lead Designer and who possess a combination of strong conceptual skills and a passion for well executed technical design documents. This role will lead project design direction with collaboration from the company president and other senior designers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Establishing the design philosophy of projects and understanding client needs, then developing assigned tasks for the project team in alignment with that philosophy.

Develops respect and strong working relationships with employees, leaders and clients.

Lead project design quality, including conceptual design and design implementation.

Lead multiple client and project design, including design presentations.

Key leadership member in developing firm’s design direction and Strategic Planning.

Generating quality and creative design concepts and setting the design direction with the team within a normal giving schedule.

Presenting design ideas quickly through graphics visual expression: either 3D modeling or hand sketches.

Communicating and presenting design work to clients and jurisdictions.

Leading multiple projects and team members at any given time.

Provides motivation, encouragement, and mentoring to young staff to promote the culture of the Firm and to enhance the professional development of staff.

Evaluates the effectiveness of overall design team members, and recommends or makes decisions with the firm leadership team to capture opportunities and correct problems.

Fills the role of either lead designer and or senior designer on selected projects.

Participates in marketing and business development.

Completion of five or six-year architectural degree program or graduate of four-year program

Minimum of ten years experience in preparation of conceptual, schematic and design development documents and materials.

Experience in design development, architectural design, documentation, and detailing on a wide variety of projects.

General knowledge of architectural practice including site planning, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical engineering and construction costs.

Demonstrated practical knowledge of building materials, detailing and construction techniques related engineering principles and building codes.

Ability to translate complex designs into clear, concise details and construction documents.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Proficiency in 3D Modeling such as Revit, Rhino, sketch up and 3D Studio Max; Rendering using mental ray or vRay; drafting in AutoCAD Architecture 2012 or later; developing presentation materials in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
