Our projects range from large scale urban mixed-use development to luxury single family home design. We are constantly looking for talented, dedicated, and team orientated design professionals.

MZA is currently seeking a Sr. designer /Lead Designer and who possess a combination of strong conceptual skills and a passion for well executed technical design documents. This role will lead project design direction with collaboration from the company president and other senior designers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Establishing the design philosophy of projects and understanding client needs, then developing assigned tasks for the project team in alignment with that philosophy.

Develops respect and strong working relationships with employees, leaders and clients.

Lead project design quality, including conceptual design and design implementation.

Lead multiple client and project design, including design presentations.

Key leadership member in developing firm’s design direction and Strategic Planning.

Generating quality and creative design concepts and setting the design direction with the team within a normal giving schedule.

Presenting design ideas quickly through graphics visual expression: either 3D modeling or hand sketches.

Communicating and presenting design work to clients and jurisdictions.

Leading multiple projects and team members at any given time.

Provides motivation, encouragement, and mentoring to young staff to promote the culture of the Firm and to enhance the professional development of staff.

Evaluates the effectiveness of overall design team members, and recommends or makes decisions with the firm leadership team to capture opportunities and correct problems.

Fills the role of either lead designer and or senior designer on selected projects.

Participates in marketing and business development.

Qualifications:

Completion of five or six-year architectural degree program or graduate of four-year program

Minimum of ten years experience in preparation of conceptual, schematic and design development documents and materials.

Experience in design development, architectural design, documentation, and detailing on a wide variety of projects.

General knowledge of architectural practice including site planning, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical engineering and construction costs.

Demonstrated practical knowledge of building materials, detailing and construction techniques related engineering principles and building codes.

Ability to translate complex designs into clear, concise details and construction documents.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Proficiency in 3D Modeling such as Revit, Rhino, sketch up and 3D Studio Max; Rendering using mental ray or vRay; drafting in AutoCAD Architecture 2012 or later; developing presentation materials in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Project Architect

The Project Architect will be responsible for the technical design implementation and delivery of each assigned project. This individual serves as the technical design lead on selected single projects.  He / she works in collaboration with the Project Leadership Triad to provide performance leadership, management (including budgets, schedules and work plans), and direction for specific projects within the market or client group.

This individual participates in the development of standards and recommends application methods to improve document accuracy, coordination, completeness, and constructability. He/she communicates across projects and teams to ensure the continued advancement of process management philosophy and quality throughout the Firm.

This position’s requirements typically include a minimum of 8 years experience in the Architectural community with an emphasis in process management. Professional registration, a working knowledge of Revit and other frequently used computer software programs, excellent graphic and verbal presentation skills, and a variety of experience in project sizes and complexity are also necessary. 

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Leads the document delivery process for the project team in coordination with the project manager yielding clear and complete working drawings

Exhibits an excellent understanding of the design philosophy of projects and client needs and budgets and relates the project detailing to that philosophy.

Provides clear direction for project support staff assisting in building detailing.

Collaborating across disciplines to ensure well-coordinated and designed projects.

Participate in important client communications and videoconferencing that occasionally occur after hours.

Develops respect and strong working relationships with co-workers and firm leaders.

Participate in multiple jobs simultaneously

Reconciles the goals and priorities of MZA with those of our clients while fostering opportunities for design and technical excellence.

Follow MZA file naming, organization and formatting protocols.

MZA is seeking a Project Architect in our Bellevue office with experience in any or all of the following markets: Commercial Mixed-Use, Multi-Family Residential, and Hospitality, including high-rise, mid-rise, and low-rise buildings of concrete, steel, and/or wood frame construction.

Reconcile the goals and priorities of MZA with those of our clients while fostering opportunities for design and technical excellence. 

Coordination with local jurisdictions for Land Use and Building Permit approvals.

On-site construction observation including processing of RFI’s, change orders, and payment applications. 

Forming lasting relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants.

 

Qualifications: 

Professional Degree in architecture (master’s preferred) 

Licensed Architect or in the process of obtain licensure. 

8 years or more of experience developing construction document drawings for a variety of project types. 

Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of architectural design, exterior skin detailing, building materials, building codes, construction techniques and costs.   

Must be organized, careful and adept at multi-tasking. The position requires collaboration and a commitment to quality and risk management. 

Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills 

Experience leading, mentoring and coordinating project teams 

Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD 

LEED Accredited a plus.   

 

Proven knowledge of general architecture practice including schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration, civil, structural, and mechanical and electrical engineering.
