Located in Bellingham’s historic Fairhaven District, the Fairhaven Sycamore Hotel reinterprets traditional brick warehouse architecture into a contemporary mixed-use destination. The project includes a boutique hotel, residential units, retail spaces, and underground parking, organized around a dynamic pedestrian streetscape. Material selections of brick, steel, and glass reflect the district’s industrial heritage, while generous setbacks, terraces, and landscape features integrate the building into the historic fabric of the neighborhood. Designed for walkability and urban vibrancy, the development enhances Fairhaven’s evolving identity while honoring its rich past.
The design draws inspiration from the historic brick warehouses of Fairhaven, blending traditional materials with contemporary forms. Activated street-level retail, articulated façades, and upper-level terraces create a vibrant, pedestrian-oriented streetscape.
The south elevation establishes the project’s primary urban frontage, characterized by articulated brick massing, expansive ground-floor glazing, and a rhythm of recessed balconies.
